Awarding Agency: Foundation for Prussian Culture

Time Frame: 2016

Program: building and open space object planning

"Staging of the Icons" two prominent constructions from the 20th Century are a part of the exhbit of the Museum of the 20th Century.
By preserving and emphasizing the visual axis between the New National Gallery and the Philharomonic, a new, stage-like open space emerges: the artist studio. In addition to this plaza serving as a exhibition space for art, it stages the two building icons of the 20th Century.
The face of the city's entire cultural forum comes from a panel removed from the building. The coarse stone facade betrays neither floor space nor function to the exterior. The design should confuse, interest and indicate.

The museum's form develops out of the building line between the new National Gallery and the Philharmonic. This retains the slight line between the New National Gallery and the Philharmonic. Moving into the city, the new museum stands apart from the culture forum. From the urban perspective, the 35 meter tall structure gestures towards Potsdamer Platz. This underlines the function as an "Icon" for the culture forum.
